Spirit-Led Art is a transformative creative practice that invites individuals to co-create with the Creator by journeying inward and acting upon divine inspiration. Spirit Led Creative Writing & Journalling

Spiritual Writing guides us beyond the confines of the rational mind, encouraging us to remove our masks and delve into the core of our true selves. It allows us to express what has been silenced, forgotten, or ignored or inspired. Whether through journaling, poetry, stories or other forms of creative writing, it aids in exploring and understanding our motivations and actions, gives us insights and helps us find our voice. Reflecting on dreams, visions, synchronicities, or the symbolism and meanings emerging from our subconscious or nature helps us uncover truths often hidden deep within us.

Historical and Modern Spirit Led Creatives

There are a multitude of artist and art lovers throughout history and accross the globe who believe the creative mind, the imagination is deeply spiritual a coduit to the divine and artists who engage in the arts as a spiritual practice.

Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), the pioneer of abstract art, found profound spiritual connection in painting to music. He experienced synesthesia, seeing colors when he listened to music, which deeply influenced his creative process. This is why our workshops often incorporate music while exploring abstract art.

Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564), my favorite historical artist, was a Renaissance sculptor, painter, architect, and poet who viewed art as a spiritual journey. He used his work to reflect divine perfection and express deep devotion, achieving spiritual tranquility. Michelangelo spoke of art’s connection to spirituality and divine beauty, offering insights into the artistic process, such as discovering form within the material itself, famously stating, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” He was a truly gifted Spirit-Led artist, sculptor, and poet.

Famous ancient Spirit Led Creators, like Augustin Lesage (1876–1954), was a French mining engineer who said he was guided by spirits to create highly detailed, symmetrical, and architectural paintings.

William Blake (1757–1827), was a poet and artist, who was known for his direct, visionary communication with the spirit realm. His creations were often inspired by biblical, Eastern, and Hermetic traditions.

Modern Day Spirit Led Artists

Spirit-Led Artists worldwide continue the timeless practice of co-creating with the Creator. This ancient tradition remains vibrant today, as spiritual creatives like VL embrace the role of being conduits that bridge the spiritual and physical realms through imaginative and divine connections. The term “Inspiration” itself, rooted in both Hebrew and Greek, signifies being “In Spirit” and being breathed into by the Breath of God, both physically and spiritually. This profound connection is why many artists incorporate breathwork before beginning their creative process. Others like Kadinsky feel inspired by creating to music.

Ojibwe and Shamanistic art is an ancient practice that continues to thrive today. VL Parker creates her art through prayer, worship, and connecting with nature, often following meditation, breathwork, from visions, dreams, or intuitive writing and Inspiration. You can see her art VL Parker Norval Morrisseau practices depicting spiritual beings, myths, and personal visions derived from Anishinaabe teachings and personal and shamanic experiences. Other indiginouse artists like  Annie Pitsiulak and Irene Avaalaaqiaq or Visionary artist David Chethlahe Paladin seek to be coduits, bridging the spiritual and physical relams through the arts. All of these Aboriginal artists have engaged in forms of Spirit Led Art.

Vanessa Horabuena is one of VL Parker’s favorites. Her works are sublime. Vanessa is a gifted Christian Worship Artist who often paints to music and to honor God and inspire others, blending her artistry with worship and music. Her work also reflects her support for Republican leaders in the USA, and as an conduit to share her faith, demonstrating the modern-day relevance of Spirit-Led Art. Spiritual Art Across Time & Cultures

First Nation Aboriginal Spiritual Art

For thousands of years, my people have engaged in Spirit-Led Art, drawing inspiration from visions and dreams, and creating alongside the Creator. This rich tradition is woven into our sacred songs, dances, stories, and more. As a First Nations-Celtic woman, I believe the Creator’s essence exists in everyone and everything, which is why we often create in nature. For many Indigenous cultures, collaborating with the Divine not only connects us to our ancestors but also imparts ancient knowledge and stories previously unknown to us. It conveys powerful messages to our people, community, and the world.

Celtic Spirit Led Art

In Celtic society, Spirit-Led Art is deeply intertwined with nature, animism, and the Divine. My Celtic ancestors have a rich history of creating with the Divine through nature, a tradition that spans thousands of years. This art form has evolved from prehistoric, symbolic, and abstract expressions into intricate songs, visual arts, dance, music, poetry, and sacred geometric designs. Like my Aboriginal ancestors, the Celts believed that trees, water, animals, and winds possessed a spirit. This belief is reflected in the profound and multi-layered symbolism that bridges and interconnects the physical and spiritual realms.

Biblical Artists Gifted by God

Spirit-Led Art in biblical tradition is seen as creative expression of visual, musical, poetic and functional art, that is directly inspired, empowered, and guided by the Holy Spirit to fulfill God’s purposes. It acts as a bridge between the Creator’s Spirit and human experience, often serving a prophetic role to communicate spiritual truths, instruct, and facilitate worship.

Bezalel, the First Spirit Filled Artist: One foundational example is Bezalel, son of Uri, mentioned in Exodus 31:1-6. God filled Bezalel with His Spirit, granting him wisdom, understanding, and skills in many crafts, such as working with gold, silver, bronze, wood, and stone, to construct the Tabernacle.

Oholiab and His Fellow Artisans: Oholiab, along with other artisans, was also filled with the Spirit to create intricate designs, fabrics, and priestly garments for the Tabernacle.

Solomon’s Temple: The building of Solomon’s Temple involved Spirit-led, high-quality artistic expression, including detailed carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and flowers, all reflecting God’s glory.

Prophetic Art (Ezekiel & Others): The Holy Spirit guided prophets to use art and symbolic actions to deliver messages. For instance, Ezekiel used a clay tablet to depict the siege of Jerusalem (Ezekiel 4:1-2). Hosea’s life served as a “living art” demonstration of God’s love.

Worship & Prophetic Arts (David): King David, inspired by the Spirit, composed music and poetry (Psalms) for worship, setting a precedent for music as Spirit-led art and prophecy. His Psalms, particularly Psalm 22, contain detailed prophecies about Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, suffering, and resurrection. These include spiritual forsakenness, physical agony with the pierced hands and feet, disjointed bones, and thirst on the cross as well as, mockery, casting lots for garments, and eventual resurrection and worship events all foretold by David centuries before they occurred.

Other Cultures Spirit Led Art Traditions

The Zen gardens of Japan serve as a meditative art form, crafted to cultivate a direct spiritual experience beyond words, emphasizing inner vision and intuition. Other meditative art forms include Tibetan sand mandalas, which symbolize the impermanence of life, and the practice of Chinese calligraphy, which combines mindfulness with artistic expression.

Spirit-Led Art is a timeless and universal phenomenon, weaving through ancient and modern cultures across the globe. While the process may vary, each artist brings their unique voice and method to co-create with the divine. This art form transcends boundaries, as the Spirit of Creation speaks to and through individuals from every tongue and nation. It is a harmonious fusion of inspiration and artistic expression.

We invite you to discover this beautiful and transformative form of art by joining one of our workshops. Come and create with us, and be part of a journey that celebrates the Spirit of Creation flowing through us all. We look forward to welcoming you into this inspiring and enriching experience.
